What is GPS?

The GPS (Global Positioning System) is a terrestrial positioning system that facilitates the location of people, animals, objects or vehicles, whether or not moving. The position or location is calculated by GPS receivers, thanks to information received from a network of 24 satellites in orbit around the world. Each of these 24 satellites are moving in an orbit of low altitude of about 17,000 kilometers above the Earth.
